Wyoming Whiskey - Single Barrel
Wyoming Whiskey Single Barrel is a 96 proof single barrel straight bourbon whiskey. It is distilled and bottled in Kirby, Wyoming. It is a 5 year old whiskey, aged in charred white oak barrels. It typically sells for around $65, although I’ve seen it as high as $80 in some places. I first tried Wyoming Whiskey at a friends house - and was impressed by how easily it drank!
It starts out smelling sweet and caramelly and clean - although the cleanliness may come from the hit of alcohol. As it sits on my tongue my lips start to burn so it definitely has heat and you get a bit of wood and butterscotch. As it finishes it is dry and tastes a bit bitter like cacao nibs. Once you add ice - don’t sip too quickly or you’ll end up coughing whiskey over your computer. That obviously did not just happen to me. Once the ice has a chance to melt a little into the whiskey, it sweetens up a little more, contributing the the sweet mineraly start. Still burns a little on the back of the throat. Overall I enjoy it, I also think it would marry really well with a hint of orange for an old fashioned. The extra heat may be from its relative youth, I’d be interested to try an older version if they ever release one.
